Sunday Chat – Wildlife and Car Show from From My Carolina Home

Our driveway has become a feast for the critters, as ripening acorns are falling everywhere. The deer and turkeys love to come by and graze on the bounty. This gal came by on a rainy day, and I got her photo through the window.

A couple of days later, this pair came to graze. The little one still has its spots, but they are fading as it gets older.

Then a surprise. I was talking on the phone when this guy (gal?) came running from the woods onto the circle. It is a coyote. It looks so thin!

It has ...

Summer in the Mountains from From My Carolina Home

Summer has arrived, and with it comes activity with our car clubs. This past week, the British car club held a drive up to the Blue Ridge Parkway with lunch at the Pisgah Inn. Stopping at an overlook on the way home, we couldn’t resist getting a photo of our MINI with the mountains in the distance.

The day started at a local grocery store parking lot where we gathered for the drive. It was good to catch up with friends not seen in a while.

Up to the Blue Ridge Parkway, we motored along. There are 8 tunnels ...

Sunday Chat – Peach Blossoms from From My Carolina Home

The week we had a great day to do a drive down to South Carolina to see the peach trees in bloom. They bloom in mid-March most years, with some varieties blooming a bit later. The day was supposed to be warm enough to put the top down on the roadster, and we met up with more members of the British Car Club at a local shopping center.

The sun was out, even though it was a bit cool in the morning. Light jackets worn to look at the cars and visit with friends were quickly shed once we were ...

Sunday Garden and a Drive from From My Carolina Home

It has been really hot everywhere, and seems like we will have more days in the 90s this year than ever before. I hate this heat, it just makes me miserable. When it gets above 78 degrees F (25 C), I am ready for it to cool down. I am happiest when the temps are in the mid-60s F (15 C). I often say that in the cold, I can always get another sweater, but there is a limit to how much I can take off, LOL! Nevertheless, the garden seems to be OK, with our normal mountain pattern of ...

Autumn In the Mountains Car Show from From My Carolina Home

This past weekend was our annual car show for the British Car Club. The day began foggy and cool, and cars were arriving early. It was apparent that the cancellation of shows last spring and many over the summer have left our car loving public desperate for some four wheel fun.

By the time registration closed, we had over 200 cars! All makes of British cars, along with several categories of European cars were represented.

Our little modern MINI on the left led off the category of MINIs. Most were classics from decades past.

Exotic cars like these two Lotus ...

Springtime Apple Blossom Drive and Garden from From My Carolina Home

Spring seems to be here at last for good. This week the azaleas have burst into bloom along the driveway circle, with the larger white one and the light pink both fully opened up now.

Down the driveway, the later bloomers are coming out now too. Another couple of whites bloom along with multiple pinks and a few corals.

Out in the countryside, our apple trees bloomed about two weeks ago, before the two nights of freezing weather. We hope the damage wasn’t extensive. Pretty white blossoms are on this tree, while others will have a pink blush.

The ...

Spring Sunday Drive from From My Carolina Home

The British Car Club drive for Saturday was postponed to Sunday due to rain, so we were able to have a nice sunny day for a drive in the mountains. We met at a parking lot in Brevard to get everyone together. It was a later start, so we could have some much needed social time.

Lots of people arrived earlier than needed, just to chat and catch up. We were outside, but still wore masks for the most part, just to protect those who have not had their vaccines yet.

We actually had so many members come that we ...

March Madness Drive from From My Carolina Home

Cabin fever has caught hold in all our car clubs, and with the warming weather, more drives are happening. The first one of the season for the British Car Club had us meeting in west Asheville for a drive north. That’s our red MINI on the left. It counts as British for this club, and also for the two MINI clubs we are in.

It didn’t take very long for more friends to arrive and we had eight cars ready to roll.

A few minutes later and we were up to 12. Seems like a lot of us ...
